Sleep regressions: what you should know

blog-img1

It's a phrase you probably dread - your baby has just gotten the hang of sleeping a few consistent hours each night and you're beginning to see the light of the end of the tunnel - then the first 4-month sleep regression arrives and suddenly you and your baby are having 1 am parties for two again.

Many parents end up Googling whether sleep regressions are real or are they just a figment of their sleep-deprived imagination. The reality is yes, sleep regressions are real and you'll probably notice them every four months until your child is about two.

What do sleep regressions occur?

During your child’s first two years of life, the number of total hours they need to sleep in 24 hrs decreases from 16 hours to just 12. A sleep-regression is just a new phase of that gradual change.

How should you handle it?

Baby’s sleep need decreases not in jumps but gradually from newborn to adult age, so whenever nighttime sleep deteriorates the culprit is frequently the total nap duration, which needs to be reduced. If you want your baby to keep sleeping during the night you need to adjust their daytime naps.

How can Kulala help?

Consult the Kulala app, which is specifically designed to adjust your baby’s overall sleep to match their age. It may take a few days but soon your child should be sleeping through the night again.
