Microsoft has started testing an updated version of the “Snip & Sketch” app in Windows 11. This new version is capable of recognizing text within images and copying it. Currently, this feature is available for participants in the Windows Insider Program on the Dev and Canary channels.

To use this new feature, users need to select the “Text Actions” option located on the toolbar. The app will then recognize the text within the edited image, allowing users to highlight and copy it using the context menu. Alternatively, users can copy the text using the corresponding button on the toolbar or the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+A and Ctrl+C.

In addition to text recognition, the “Text Actions” tool also enables users to quickly redact sensitive information from screenshots. After selecting the “Quick Mask” option, the app will automatically hide email addresses and phone numbers in the edited image. Furthermore, users can select a portion of text and choose the “Hide Text” option from the menu to make it unreadable.

Another feature related to photo editing has been introduced in the “Your Phone” app, allowing users to edit photos from their Android smartphones directly on their computers. When a user takes a photo on their synced smartphone, a notification appears on the computer, offering the option to edit the image.
